The VinFast Rasad Electric Scooter has taken another step towards its global debut, with the Vietnamese EV maker filing a design patent for the upcoming maxi-scooter in India. The filing comes months before the Rasad is expected to make its global debut and follows similar Indian patent filings for the Viper scooter and a motorcycle based on the Sulad concept.
First unveiled by VinFast earlier this year, the Rasad is aimed at the more premium end of the electric scooter market. It also takes a different approach from the company’s existing scooters, with a proper maxi-scooter design. The large bodywork, tall windscreen and more substantial riding position give it a distinctly bigger-road presence, suggesting that VinFast wants the Rasad to appeal to riders looking for more than just a compact city commuter.
VinFast Rasad Electric Scooter: What the Design Patent Reveals
The Indian design filing gives a good look at the Rasad’s overall shape. The scooter gets a muscular, angular design with chunky tyres and an underbone-style chassis. The proportions are closer to scooters such as the Yamaha Aerox and Honda ADV160 than to a conventional city-focused electric scooter.
The front end features a tall windscreen and a sharply styled headlamp, while the side panels carry several prominent creases that give the scooter a more aggressive appearance. A wide handlebar and rectangular digital instrument cluster complete the cockpit.
The Rasad also appears to have been designed with longer-distance riding in mind. The patent images show a broad stepped seat with separate rider and pillion sections, along with a fairly upright seating position.
Rasad could be one of VinFast’s faster scooters
VinFast has not officially announced the Rasad’s complete technical specifications yet. However, reports from Vietnamese media indicate that the scooter could use a centrally mounted electric motor producing 7.1kW of peak power.
The same reports suggest a claimed top speed of around 100kph. These figures have not yet been officially confirmed by VinFast, so the final production-spec scooter could differ.
Underneath, the design appears fairly conventional for a performance-oriented maxi-scooter, with a telescopic fork at the front, twin rear shock absorbers and disc brakes at both ends. The scooter rides on 14-inch alloy wheels, according to the patent images.
Global debut expected later this year
VinFast is expected to introduce the Rasad globally in the fourth quarter of 2026. The company had earlier placed the Rasad within its new premium electric scooter family, alongside the Sadie and Saxil.
That timing is worth noting because the Indian patent has appeared well before the scooter’s global launch. It suggests VinFast is protecting the Rasad’s design in India as it prepares to expand its electric two-wheeler business, although a patent alone does not confirm that the model will be sold here.
Is the VinFast Rasad coming to India?
That is still the big question.
VinFast has previously said it planned to enter India with electric two-wheelers, and the recent patent activity points towards a wider range than initially expected. The Viper, the Sulad-based motorcycle, and now the Rasad have all appeared in Indian design filings.
However, VinFast has not officially confirmed the Rasad’s India launch, pricing or launch timeline. It would therefore be premature to call the scooter an upcoming India launch purely based on the patent.
For now, the filing is best viewed as another strong indication that India is on VinFast’s radar for its next generation of electric two-wheelers.
With its maxi-scooter proportions, claimed 100kph top speed and more performance-oriented design, the Rasad could be one of the more interesting additions to VinFast’s growing EV portfolio. More details should emerge as the company gets closer to its global debut later this year.
