The Mahindra BE 6 has already made its mark as one of the most distinctive electric SUVs in India. Now, Mahindra has taken that formula a step further. The Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq has officially been launched in India with a new three-screen cabin, more connected features, new battery options and, most importantly, a new Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model. Prices start at Rs 19.45 lakh, ex-showroom, while the BaaS option brings the starting price down to Rs 11.45 lakh, plus a battery usage charge of Rs 3.75 per km. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on August 26, 2026.
Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq Launched In India
The BE 6 Sporteq was officially introduced on August 15, 2026. It is positioned as the next evolution of the BE 6 rather than a completely new-generation model. The overall design continues with the sharp and futuristic styling that made the BE 6 stand out. Mahindra has, however, added new colour choices to give buyers more ways to personalise the SUV.
The Sporteq is available in 12 colour options, including four new shades: Rosso Impulso, Ruby Velvet, Graphite Storm and Firestorm Orange Satin. There are also two special versions of the Sporteq, namely the Launch Edition and Formula E Freedom Edition.
New Three-Screen Cabin Is The Biggest Change
The interior is where the BE 6 Sporteq gets a major update. From the Sporteq Two variant onwards, Mahindra offers a three-screen, coast-to-coast display setup. This gives the dashboard a much wider digital appearance and adds a dedicated screen for the front passenger.
The original BE 6’s signature halo-style cockpit is not carried over to the regular Sporteq versions. Instead, the cabin gets a more open dashboard design. However, buyers who still want the original race-inspired interior can choose the BE 6 Sporteq Formula E Freedom Edition. This special version retains the two-screen setup and the signature halo design. The Sporteq also gets a new Racing Tan interior theme on the Launch Edition, matching its more premium positioning.
Six New TEQ Suites Bring More Technology
Mahindra has also introduced six new technology suites under the TEQ name. These are powered by MAIA, Mahindra’s Artificial Intelligence Architecture, which forms a key part of the company’s software-defined vehicle strategy.
TEQ_Talk is one of the biggest highlights. It has been developed with Google Gemini and acts as a conversational assistant inside the vehicle. It can interact with the driver and support functions such as navigation, music and vehicle controls. Then there is TEQ_Play, which brings entertainment features such as karaoke, in-car gaming, private audio and Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support.
TEQ_Drive is aimed more at the driving experience. It includes Custom Drive Mode, Drift Mode, Tribe Drive and Revive functions. The Formula E Freedom Edition also gets an exclusive Acceleration Boost feature. TEQ_Me focuses on personalisation and can recognise user profiles and automatically adjust selected settings. TEQ_Secure brings features such as Secure360 Pro, intrusion alerts, NFC functionality and Digital Car Key support across compatible Apple, Android and Samsung devices. Finally, TEQ_xting allows owners to create personalised messages for the tailgate. In other words, the BE 6 Sporteq is not just getting more screens. Mahindra has added more software and interaction into the vehicle as well.
Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq Gets 59kWh, 70kWh And 79kWh Batteries
Another important update is the addition of a new 70kWh battery pack. The BE 6 Sporteq is now available with 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh battery options, depending on the variant. The 79kWh version continues to offer a claimed range of up to around 683km.
The BE 6 retains its rear-wheel-drive character, which has been one of its most interesting mechanical traits since launch. The larger battery version continues to offer strong performance, with outputs of around 286hp and 380Nm depending on the configuration. The new 70kWh battery essentially gives buyers another option between the existing smaller and larger packs. This makes the Sporteq range broader than the earlier BE 6 lineup.
BaaS Is A Major New Ownership Option For Mahindra
The biggest talking point, however, may not be a screen or a battery. It is Battery-as-a-Service. With the BE 6 Sporteq, Mahindra is introducing BaaS as an actual ownership option for its passenger electric SUV range. The Sporteq starts at Rs 11.45 lakh with BaaS, while the battery usage fee is Rs 3.75 per km.
The BaaS option is currently available with the 59kWh battery on the Sporteq One and Sporteq Two variants. The battery is effectively separated from the upfront vehicle purchase, allowing customers to pay a lower initial price and then pay according to usage. It is worth making one distinction here. Mahindra and Jio-bp had already announced plans in 2021 to explore business models such as BaaS. So, this is not the first time the Mahindra Group has discussed the concept. However, the BE 6 Sporteq is significant because BaaS is now being offered as a customer-facing ownership model on a Mahindra passenger EV.
For buyers who are comfortable with the per-kilometre battery charge, this could make the BE 6 Sporteq considerably more accessible.
Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq Price And Variants
The regular BE 6 Sporteq range starts at Rs 19.45 lakh and goes up to Rs 26.95 lakh, ex-showroom. The variant lineup includes Sporteq One, Two, Three, Three+, Four, the Formula E versions and the Launch Edition.
The Sporteq One with the 59kWh battery costs Rs 19.45 lakh, while the Sporteq Two is priced at Rs 20.95 lakh. The Sporteq Three starts at Rs 21.95 lakh with the 59kWh battery and Rs 22.95 lakh with the 70kWh battery. The Sporteq Three+ is available with the 70kWh battery at Rs 23.95 lakh and the 79kWh battery at Rs 24.95 lakh. At the top, the Sporteq Four with the 79kWh battery costs Rs 26.95 lakh. The Sporteq Launch Edition is also priced at Rs 26.95 lakh, while the Formula E Freedom Edition starts at Rs 24.45 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
BE 6 Sporteq Launch Edition And Formula E Freedom Edition
Mahindra has also used the launch to introduce two more special expressions of the BE 6 Sporteq. The Launch Edition gets a distinctive Graphite Storm exterior along with a full Racing Tan leatherette interior. It sits at the top of the regular Sporteq range and is aimed at buyers looking for something more exclusive.
The Formula E Freedom Edition, meanwhile, takes inspiration from Mahindra Racing’s Formula E programme. It is the sportier version of the Sporteq family and keeps the original race-inspired cockpit with two screens and the halo design. This version is also available with the 79kWh battery and gets its own motorsport-inspired character.
Existing BE 6 Owners Will Also Get New Features
There is another interesting part of Mahindra’s software strategy. The company says that the new software and technology features introduced with the Sporteq will also be made available to existing BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S owners through over-the-air updates.
The rollout is scheduled to begin in phases from January 2027. The exact features available will depend on the vehicle model and variant. This is important because it means Mahindra is not treating the Sporteq’s new technology as something exclusive to a new vehicle forever. The software-defined architecture allows the company to add selected features to vehicles that are already on the road.
Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq Deliveries
Bookings for the new BE 6 Sporteq have opened, and deliveries are scheduled to begin on August 26, 2026, which falls on the occasion of Onam.
With the Sporteq, Mahindra has not completely changed the BE 6 formula. Instead, it has expanded it. The radical design remains. The rear-wheel-drive setup remains. The 79kWh battery remains. But now there is a new 70kWh option, a more advanced digital cockpit, AI-based features, more personalisation and a new BaaS ownership model.
That makes the Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq more than just another special edition. It is essentially Mahindra’s attempt to make an already unconventional electric SUV more technology-focused, more customisable and easier to access. And considering how different the original BE 6 was when it arrived, the Sporteq looks like Mahindra is once again trying to do things a little differently in the Indian EV market.
